2025 Public Service Award

The North Dakota Veterinary Medical Association (NDVMA) is pleased to recognize Senators Michelle Powers (left) and Josh Boschee (right) with the 2025 Public Service Award for their thoughtful leadership and commitment to collaboration during the 2025 legislative session.

Representing Fargo’s Districts 46 and 44, respectively, Senators Powers and Boschee were honored at NDVMA’s 120th Annual Meeting, held August 7–9 in Medora. The awards were presented on behalf of NDVMA by Dr. Heather Mitchell (center). A photo taken at the event shows the senators receiving their commemorative plaques alongside Dr. Mitchell.

As members of the Senate Workforce Development Committee, the senators played a key role in the legislative process surrounding Senate Bill 2129, which proposed updates to the state’s Veterinary Practice Act. In response to input from a variety of stakeholders, Senators Boschee and Powers helped lead a constructive subcommittee process that brought together veterinary professionals, the public, and legislative colleagues to carefully consider revisions to the bill.

“Their ability to listen and learn about veterinary medicine, and to address the differences among many stakeholders, was instrumental in producing a high-quality piece of legislation to guide North Dakota veterinarians into the future,” said Dr. Heather Mitchell (center), NDVMA President.

The NDVMA is honored to present Senators Powers and Boschee with the 2025 Public Service Award in recognition of their service to the veterinary profession and the people of North Dakota.
