Ultrasound Wet Lab Objectives:
1 - The Equine Distal Limb - Soft Tissue evaluation of common regions of pathology
Part 1: A short anatomical and hands-on presentation of ultrasound of the suspensory ligament and flexor tendons of the metacarpal/tarsal regions will be performed. The use of comparison contralateral limb anatomy, circumferential surface area and non-weight bearing approach for the origin of the suspensory ligament will be shared. The pastern and the distal digit will be evaluated using both linear and micro convex ultrasound probes with discussion on some of the ways to evaluate the navicular bursa. The goal of the wet lab is to help clinicians feel more comfortable using ultrasound in their daily practice.
Part 2: Equine ultrasound evaluation of the cervical neck and back. Many horses have significant pathology that is recognized in greater detail using ultrasound. The technique for ultrasound guided cervical neck facet injections will be discussed. Scanning ultrasound of the thoracolumbar regions, and utilization of cranial and caudal SI approaches for injection will be discussed if time allows.
